ALAN SMITH
Arsenal Career: 1987-1995
Position: Striker
Appearances: 347
Goals: 115

Smith combined his intelligence with an unfailing work ethic to become one of the top-flight's supreme target men. As Arsenal charged towards the title, Smith continued his own assault on the Golden Boot. On the final day of the season both accolades were secured as all aspects of Smith's improvement came to the fore at Anfield. Smith scored the only goal of the 1994 European Cup Winners' Cup Final victory against Parma. Smith was Arsenal's top scorer for four consecutive seasons, and the top scorer in the First Division in the 1988–89 season with 23 goals. He retired from professional football in July 1995 after scoring 115 goals in 347 appearances for the club.
